Hospitality & Entertaining – The Bathroom

Isn’t that a lovely title that makes you want to read more?  Bad title aside, having an accessible, well-stocked bathroom is a very basic part of entertaining at home.  Here are some basics for a company friendly bathroom:
-          Make sure everyone knows where the bathroom is.  If there’s a second bathroom available, make sure people know that as well.
-          Consider lighting a scented candle or placing some potpourri on the counter.  A fresh smelling bathroom is much more inviting.
-          While your home certainly doesn’t have to be perfect in order to entertain spend a few minutes straightening up the bathroom. No one wants to fight their way through prescriptions, cosmetics, combs, brushes, etc to find the sink.
-          A well-stocked bathroom makes for happy guests.  Sure, bathroom mishaps are hilarious in a romantic comedy, but no one wants to deal with that in real life.  Make sure your bathroom is well-stocked with towels and/or paper towels, toilet paper, and hand soap.  No one wants to search or ask for anything in the bathroom.
So what are your tips and tricks for making sure the bathroom is company friendly?  Or do you care to share a misadventure in a bathroom that wasn’t company friendly?

  1. A bathroom door knocker is helpful at parties. There is always some idiot who leaves and closes the door and a long line of people waiting for an empty bathroom starts to form.

  2. Hi Danielle,

An inviting, clean smelling bathroom is a must in a home where we care about our guests. I also realise that time depends on which side of the bathroom door you're on.

    Which reminds me...um...time to go.

  3. Good tips with the bathroom. My only mishap was when I knew toilet paper needed to be replaced but hadn't gotten around to it yet in the spare bathroom. Brother and SIL came for quick visit and hubby had SIL use the bathroom before I could replace the roll. Thankfully there was plenty of rolls under the sink, but still........

  4. I always make sure there are replacement toilet rolls handy in both the bathrooms. Your tips are those I follow daily anyway.

  5. I only have the one bathroom in this house, but I can't say it's ever been an issue for me. I keep that room fairly clean just because I prefer it that way.

  6. The Bathroom always gets a once over and final check before guests arrive. I make sure everything is in its place-- and that there's enough. :)

  7. We agree with that candle or potpourri tip. And getting the bathroom all set is always a priority before we have guests.
