Azaleas

The azaleas are blooming!  Now that the azaleas are in bloom it’s stating to look like Spring is really here.  Spring is my favorite season, so it makes me especially happy when things start blooming.

Azaleas thrive in the southeast, so we have a lot of them in our yard, and are considering adding more.  I’d like to find a yellow azalea bush.  We have white, and various shades of pink - pale pink all the way to hot pink, but no yellow.  Yet.

I just love azaleas.  I think they’re so pretty, and they’re some of the first really colorful bushes to bloom here.  I love that there are so many different varieties of azaleas, and that the flowers are different sizes and colors.

According to Wikipedia, azaleas were first cultivated outside of greenhouses in Charleston, South Carolina.  Since South Carolina is my home state it makes me especially happy to have so many azalea bushes in bloom.

So what about you?  Do you like azaleas?  Are they in bloom where you are?

  1. Your azaleas are so pretty! A few times in my life, I have visited Callaway Gardens in south Georgia during spring and they have a wonderful selection of azaleas blooming. One of our former homes, we found a purple variety of azalea named "Mildred!" I wish you a nice weekend and a delightful April.

  2. I love the early blooming signs of spring. Where I am, we haven't really begun the blooming. A few buds on the trees, a forsythia or two, but no azaleas yet. Enjoy the challenge. My Virtual Vineyard

  3. So pretty! We don't have them here. I haven't seen too many signs of spring here with the vibrant colors, but allergies of others are kicking in so things are blooming. Great start to A to Z.

  4. I love azaleas too and had lots of bushes growing round our home in NC. However, in Canada, it is still way too early.

  5. I like azaleas but do not grow any outdoors. I did have two that I kept in my home for many years.

  6. I always associate azaleas with the Masters Golf Tournament at Augusta, Georgia! I LOVE the scenery down there, and the azaleas steal the show! It starts this coming week, so I'll think of you as I delight in all the gorgeous blooms!

  7. Having recently moved from one hemisphere to the other, I have no idea when Azaleas will bloom, but I'm certainly loving English gardens in early Spring. The colours are so different from in Australia.

  8. I too love azaleas but have not had much luck with them throughout the years. I was happy to see yours though.

  9. Azaleas are so pretty! The plants here are so confused -- we've had such wildly fluctuating weather this spring.

  10. Pretty pictures. Alas, I wouldn't know an azalea if I tripped over it.

  11. Where I live we don't get to see many flowers. It's a seaside town, where a lot of people have little to no garden. The parks not far from here are starting to come to life though, and there may be some Azaleas among the flowers in one of them. Don't quote me on that though, since my hubby's not very good with flower types, so I just get told colours of flowers whenever I ask him about any flowers that may be in the park when we go there.

  12. Danielle, these are so beautiful. I do love azaleas but I have no aptitude for growing them. I always love it when we travel in the South and I see so many beautiful ones. Especially the pinks!

Thanks so much for coming around to the Marmelade Gypsy! I always love your comments!

  13. I love azaleas but we are far from azalea bloom where I live in upstate New York. My first crocus opened yesterday! I've been to the Flowertown festival in Summerville, SC twice. Enjoyable.
