Music Monday: Gayla Peevey - I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas

Now that it’s December, I think it’s officially alright to start posting Christmas songs for Music Monday.

This is my absolute favorite Christmas song.  It’s so cute and happy.  I think it’s impossible not to smile when you hear it.

We’ve also dubbed it Howard’s official Christmas song.  We just change it to Howard-potamus.  I think he’s pretty happy having his own Christmas song.

Music Monday: Jewel - Hands

I’ve been a fan of Jewel ever since her first album came out.  One of my favorite songs of hers, though, is Hands. I think she has an incredible voice, and I absolutely love the lyrics.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Music Monday: Bill Haley & His Comets - Shake, Rattle & Roll

Saturday night was fairly cold here, and it really felt like fall, so we decided to watch a slightly Halloween-ish movie.  We decided on Clue, with all three of the endings.  This song is in the movie, and has been stuck in my head since Saturday night, so I thought I’d share it with you for Music Monday.

Does it feel like fall where you are?  Have you been watching any Halloween movies?

Music Monday: Faith Hill - It Matters To Me

Faith Hill’s It Matters To Me was one of the first CDs I ever owned.  The whole CD is great, but my favorite song on it is It Matters To Me.  I love the song.

Fourteen year old me was obsessed with the song.  That was also about the time that I discovered the repeat feature on my CD player.  I played this song over, and over, and over, for hours at a time.  Oddly enough, the rest of my family hates the song.  They disagreed with me about how much of a good thing was too much.  I’m pretty sure my parents and sister would do just about anything to make it stop if someone started playing this song on repeat.

I hope you enjoy it, even if you only want to enjoy it once.  Personally, I think it’s best played a few times in a row.

Are there any songs you like to listen to over and over?

Music Monday: Augustana - Just Stay Here Tonight

I first heard this song on a TV show a few years ago, but I can’t remember which one.  That probably means the show wasn’t that memorable, but the song is great.  I think it’s happy and peppy, without being loud or annoying.  I hope you enjoy it.

Have you found any great songs from TV shows?

Music Monday: Alison Krauss - When You Say Nothing At All

In continuing this month’s theme of songs from our wedding, today’s song is the Alison Krauss version of When You Say Nothing At All.

This is the song my dad and I walked down the aisle to.  We both really like this one, and had seen her in concert together, so it felt like the right choice.  I hope you enjoy it.

Music Monday: Peter, Paul & Mary - Kisses Sweeter Than Wine

In continuing this month’s theme of songs from our wedding, today’s song is Peter, Paul & Mary’s Kisses Sweeter Than Wine.

This is the song that Nick’s side of the family walked down the aisle to.  I think it’s a really pretty song, so I hope you enjoy it.

Music Monday: Louis Armstrong -A Kiss To Build A Dream On

In continuing this month’s theme of songs from our wedding, today’s song is Louis Armstrong’s A Kiss To Build A Dream On

One of the dances our wedding D.J. suggested was a longest married dance; all of the married couples are encouraged to get out on the dance floor, and then the D.J. starts telling people to sit down if they’ve been married less than a day, less than a year, and on from there.  We loved the idea, and chose this song for it.  Obviously, Nick and I were the first couple out.

My paternal grandparents were the longest married couple there, coming in at 58 years.

Nick’s maternal grandparents came in a fairly close second, having just celebrated their 49th anniversary nine days before.

Some honorable mentions included:

My parents, less than two months shy of their 34th anniversary.

Nick’s mom and step-dad, Susan and Alan, two days shy of their second anniversary.

And my aunt Diana and uncle Lane, having just celebrated their first anniversary three weeks earlier.

You’re probably wondering how Susan and Alan get an honorable mention at two years, and Diana and Lane get one at just a year.  Well, if it hadn’t been for the four of them, Nick and I likely wouldn’t have ever met.  As I’ve mentioned before, Nick and I met on E-Harmony; we were actually matched the week Lane and Aunt Diana got married.  Nick only tried online dating after seeing how it well worked for his mom, and I only tried it after seeing how well it worked for my aunt.  So, in a way, we owe it all to them.

Just in case you’re wondering, Aunt Diana and Lane just celebrated their 11th anniversary on the 8th, and Susan and Alan will be celebrating their 12 anniversary on the 30th.  I promise this really isn’t an E-Harmony sponsored post!  I have no idea what the statistics are on marriages lasting if the couples meet online versus in a more traditional setting.  In our two families, the odds seem pretty good.

So what about you?  Are you a Louis Armstrong fan?  How did you meet your significant other?

Music Monday: Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You

Nick and I will be celebrating our tenth anniversary later this month, so my theme for Music Monday during September is going to be songs from our wedding.

Our first dance song was Savage Garden’s I Knew I Loved You.  It’s a great song.  I hope you enjoy it.

Music Monday: Friends Theme Song

Today is International Day of Friendship.  This link takes you to a short blurb about the day, but the even shorter version is that it’s a day to promote friendship and peace.  We could probably use a lot more days like this!

I thought it would be the perfect day to share the theme song from Friends.  Aside from being one of my favorite TV series, ever, I really like the theme song.  And it’s a happy song to start your Monday off with.

I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank you for your online friendship over the years.  Some of you have been visiting and commenting for years.  I really appreciate you taking the time, and all of your kind words over the years.  Happy International Day of Friendship!

Music Monday: Cravin’ Melon - Sweet Tea

Yes, folks, there’s actually a song about sweet tea.  If I had a theme song, I think this would be it.  Aside from the fact that it’s about my favorite beverage, it’s a great song.  Listen to it, I think you’ll like it.

Here’s a link to my sweet tea recipe, just in case the song left you wanting a nice glass of sweet tea.

Is there a song about your favorite beverage?

Music Monday: Beach Boys - God Only Knows

We watched Love Actually over the weekend.  For about the millionth time.  I love that movie!  If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and watch it

The opening scene is one of my favorite scenes ever, and I can’t watch it without getting a little teary eyed.  It’s a good cry, though.  The video is short, only a minute and 17 seconds, so I’d encourage you to watch it.

The last scene plays one of my favorite songs, Beach Boys God Only Knows.  I just love this song!

So what about you?  Have you seen Love Actually?  Did you like it?  Are you a Beach Boys fan?
