I thought a Thursday 13 was in order since it has been so long since I’ve posted anything. As usual, not all of the photos are related to the post.

1. We’re still working on getting Howard’s insulin regulated. He’s up to six units twice a day. He had a glucose curve done last week, and Dr. D. increased his dose from five units twice a day to six units twice a day. He goes next week to have his blood sugar checked again.
2. I still haven’t given Howard an insulin injection. Nick has been doing them. We’ve decided that I am definitely going to do it over the long weekend.
3. We went to Dollywood two weekends ago with our neighbors. They have a season pass and invited us as their guests. Between their family, one of the boys bringing his girlfriend, and us, we had eleven people in our group. It was so much fun! There was always someone to ride any ride with, and there was always someone to hang out with if there was a ride you didn’t want to go on.
4. Bumper cars are so much more fun when you know most of the other people in the cars. It’s much more fun to ram a friend than ram a stranger.
5. I can no longer go on rides that move in a constant circle. I used to be able to if I took Dramamine, but it’s a definite NO now.
6. I got a new laptop. So far, I really like it. I loved my old one, but it’s almost eight years old and has really slowed down. The new one is a Lenovo. I use a Lenovo ThinkPad at work, and I love it. Those are out of our budget, so I opted for a Lenovo laptop.
7. I’m hoping that with a faster laptop, I’ll be able to post more often. I always miss blogging whenever I don’t do it.

8. I also purchased more Google storage, so I’m in the process of moving all of my pictures from the old laptop to my Google drive. I take a lot of pictures!
9. In the Ford versus Chevy debate, I am 100% team Toyota. My Camry is in the shop, and the rental is a Chevy Equinox. I have been referring to it as Satan’s SUV if that gives you an idea of how much I dislike it.
10. Nick doesn’t hate Satan’s SUV like I do, so after I drove it once, we switched. He’s driving it, and I’m driving his car. His is a Honda, so everything is very similar to my car. Nick says he has had more time to get used to how different everything is because the car he drives at work is a Chevy. He also handles change much better than I do.
11. Last month, we went to Fleet Feet in Greenville, SC, to get fitted for shoes. My sister did at the beginning of 2020 and has been recommending it ever since then. They’re the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn in my life! I ended up with a pair of Brooks, and Nick ended up with a pair of Hokas. Our feet didn’t hurt at all after the Dollywood trip. Neither one of us could remember the last time we’d done that much walking (my step count was over 23,000 for the day) without our feet hurting.
12. I started a Zazzle store. I love notebooks, so I’ve been putting my photos on notebooks.
13. Walgreens’ text messages about pet prescriptions are hilarious. I especially love the one instructing Duke the dog to pick up his prescription.
So what have you been up to lately?
Good to see you posting again! I had to laugh at the pet prescriptions, hope your dogs can read! Enjoy your new laptop. Mine is 10 years old and also getting slower. Lenovo is a good make. Have a great weekend, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed your laptop has lasted so long.
DeleteI should try the Thursday 13 sometime because I find it difficult to post regularly. A list is always easier than paragraphs, for me anyway. Also, I didn't know you could set up a Zazzle shop. I checked out your things and they are quite pretty. I was hesitant about giving one our cat shots at first, but eventually learned to do it. Not my favorite thing, but not too bad either. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I could manage a Thursday 13 every week, but it's very convenient when I haven't posted in a while. I'm glad to hear you got used to giving your kitty shots. That helps to know that other people have gotten used to it
DeleteIt is good to read you again, Danielle.
ReplyDeleteHoward is a lucky feline to have you two in his life!
Howard is such a great cat, so that makes it easier to take care of him. He's always so sweet about everything.
DeleteI remember my parents going to Dollywood and really enjoying it, even though they were probably too old to ride anything. I’m a Team Honda person, so I get it! Another blogger friend just posted that her vet’s office always puts her dog’s name in quotes on bills and RX, like he’s fake or something. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI’m team Honda who has never been to Dollywood but grew up with an amusement park in our town but never rode the roller coaster.
ReplyDeleteI skipped most of the rollercoasters, so I understand you not riding it.
DeleteThis was a great way to do a catch up post, Danielle! Sounds like fun at Dollywood! I have heard that it really makes a difference in the shoes one wears for comfort; glad you guys went through the process of getting evaluated for literally the best fit! I'll have to look at your Zazzle store this weekend :) Good luck with the injections. Don't stress out about them and be relaxed about them. I think our pets pick up our stress. Too cute about the messages from the pharmacy for picking up meds. Have a nice weekend!

I'm surprised how much the shoes help. They're better than the orthotics I've gotten from the podiatrist. I'm trying to stay calm about Howard's shots. We deliberately chose the long weekend so there would be no time pressure. I'm hoping that helps.
DeleteOh! Are you home testing?? Please please look into getting a cheap Relion meter (human) and look into testing (ear prick) before shooting insulin. That is a huge dose of insulin for a kitty and they can and often do start going into remission quite suddenly. My Bella did and she would not be here if I hadn't been home testing. Dollywood is so fun - wish we could go back sooner rather than later!
ReplyDeleteOur vet has mentioned home testing as a possibility in the future. At the moment, they're more concerned about the possibility of insulin resistance. Howard has severe asthma and is on a high steroid dose for that. Unfortunately, that contributes to the diabetes. I have a feeling we're going to end up seeing the specialist to get it regulated. Was it hard to learn to do the ear prick for the home testing? I'm a little nervous about that.
DeleteHello! Love the Thursday 13 idea. First time I've been here, but this was a good way to learn a little about you. Did Duke and Howard pick up their prescriptions? Did they drive the Honda? 😉
ReplyDeleteHaha, Duke and Howard have people for that. And they usually ride in the Toyota. The Honda is a two-door, so not the best for driving pets around.
DeleteWhen I was a kid, I loved the Tea Cups at Disneyland. You sat in a big tea cup and spun and spun and spun. Something happened when I reached adulthood, though, and I could no longer tolerate the ride. Sad sigh. The last time I was on it, I couldn't allow my companions to spin (there's a control that lets the riders choose how fast the thing spins). And even us not spinning was too much for me.
ReplyDeleteOne of the rides that really got to me was like that. I used to love them, but they're a definite NO for me now. The joys of getting older, I guess.
DeleteWe sure hope you can get Howard's insulin squared away. It sounds like you're on your way. Good luck with giving him his injection, Danielle. You will be fine! We know it!
ReplyDeleteDollywood sounds fun. I'm with you -- those round and round at high speed rides are a no go for me. LOL
We're Team Mazda here. We love how they handle and have had very, very few issues with them. :)
I have now given Howard a few of his injections. He was so good and sweet about it.
DeleteGreat to see a post from you. Sorry I was so late coming to read it, but I'm having notification issues (as in, I'm not getting them) so have to check for new posts manually, and it tends to take me longer to get to them because of it. Anyway, sounds like you had a fun trip, and I agree regarding it being more fun to hit people you know in bumper cars than strangers.
ReplyDeleteBlogger seems to be weird lately. Some people keep showing up as anonymous even though they don't mean to. Glad I'm not the only one who'd rather crash into friends than strangers.
