Thursday 13

 1.    We’re still working on getting Howard’s blood sugar under control.  It was 419 yesterday, so still very high.  Dr. D. is consulting with Dr. V. (the specialist we like, Duke saw her for his Cushing’s Disease).

2.    I did successfully give Howard some of his insulin injections over the long weekend.  The only tears shed were mine.

3.    Nick and Howard (and, to some extent, Frankie) deserve the credit for my injection giving.  Nick was incredibly patient in walking me through it.  Howard is such a sweetie about it and everything, really.  And Frankie very sweetly cuddled up with Howard (I think for moral support) the second time I did it.

4.    I’m still pretty nervous about giving Howard his injections, but I know I can do it now.

5.    My car was ready to be picked up from the body shop on Tuesday, and I was delighted to return Satan’s SUV to Enterprise and start driving my car again.

6.    We tried a pineapple cheese casserole for the first time over the long weekend.  Nick wasn’t a fan.  He thought the texture was a little weird.  I loved it!  I think I’m going to make one with Thanksgiving dinner this year.

7.    For anyone else counting down, Thanksgiving is only eleven weeks away!

8.    Yes, I am already thinking about Thanksgiving and getting excited about all of the cooking and fun.

9.    I’ve been crocheting again.  I hadn’t done it in over a year.  After making so many mask adapters in 2020/2021, I was a little burned out.  I didn’t mean to take such a long break, but things got busy, as they so often do.

10. Now that I’m back to crocheting again, there are so many projects I want to try.  If only my talent matched my ambition!

11. My job has given us the option to request a third work-from-home day.  We’re currently allowed two, which I opted to take.  I wasn’t sure about taking a third telework day, but one of my coworkers pointed out that I wouldn’t be penalized for getting it approved and not taking it.  So, I asked for it.  We’re still waiting to see if our requests are approved or not, so I’m not sure if I’ll get it.

12. One of my coworkers and I decided to start a book club.  We both enjoy reading, and she has been struggling to meet people here, so we thought a book club might be fun.  We had our first meeting on Tuesday to choose a book.  There were only three of us (the other two had to cancel), but we enjoyed talking about different books and what we like to read.  I’m hopeful that this is going to be fun.

13. Our hydrangea is still blooming.  So is our yellow rose.  I know we won’t have things blooming much longer, so I’m very happy to see them right now.

What have you been up to this week?

  1. I’ve been getting out my fall decor. I change out all the photos in frames as well, so it takes me a few days, in between everything else.

I’ve had that pineapple casserole once. I sort of liked it, but it was kind of strange! Lol! We have 4 hydrangeas and not one got a bloom this year. I’ve had them netted for years, but the deer manage to poke their heads underneath or chew through it I guess.

    1. I think hydrangeas just do well here. Ours is huge and should probably be trimmed back. And I'm sure it helps that we don't have deer nibbling on it.

  2. We have finally had some rain and a cold front, so we haven't had any temps in the 90s for a few days. A very welcome thing. Our two cats celebrated their 19th birthday this week. They were litter mates. They are definitely showing their old age, but still seem to be enjoying life for the most part and demanding what they want. These are the oldest cats we've ever had.

    1. That's impressive that your kitties are 19! I hope all of ours make it at least that long.

  3. Yay that you gave Howard a few insulin injections!! WTG Danielle!! I know how hard it is to do so, so it is a really big accomplishment that you did it! That pineapple cheese casserole looks interesting. I think I would like it; not sure how many others in the family would enjoy it though. If you can work an extra day at home, go for it! I hope you get approved for it. Think of the money saved in commuting, etc! Wow, Thanksgiving is coming up quickly! That usually signifies cooler weather here so that's a nice thing!

    1. Thanks! I go back and forth between feeling very proud of myself for doing it and feeling like I should have been doing it for a while by now. If your family doesn't like the casserole that just means more for you!

  4. Your late blooms are beautiful. Book club is a great idea. Ours disbanded with Covid but hasn’t started again yet. Great job with the injections. You have that!

    1. I hope you book club can start back soon. I was in one years ago that I didn't enjoy, but I've always liked the idea. I like how this one is going so far. Thanks! I'm glad I know I can do the injections when I need to.

  5. Well, if you're looking for crochet projects, I can suggest a couple of interesting looking hats. An octopus and a unicorn. If you want links to where to buy the patterns, let me know...

    1. My sister has been asking for a crochet cat couch for two years now, so I really want to make one to give her at Christmas. Crochet Crowd finally posted a left-handed video, and I've been practicing the stitches for the pattern. I'll see how that goes and go from there.

  6. Way to go giving Howard his injections! I'm trying to imagine pineapple cheese casserole. I might side with Nick on that one.
A book club sounds like a great idea!

    1. Thanks! The pineapple cheese casserole is a great combination of sweet and salty, which I tend to like. I think it's probably like pineapple on pizza in that people have very strong opinions on it.

  7. I've been in our local book club for four years, and I enjoy chatting about the books and chatting generally. I hope your book club works out. I've never tried pineapple casserole (or pineapple pizza). Perhaps I'm missing out?

I'm waiting for a really dry day so I can mow our garden lawns before winter descends. I'm also waiting for the final results of a prostate/pelvis scan. Otherwise all very mundane.

Good luck on getting Howard's blood sugar down.

    1. I hope our book club works out like that. I'm hopeful so far. I think you're definitely missing out by not having pineapple on pizza or pineapple casserole. I hope you get good news on your scan.

    2. I got the final scan result which had no cause for concern.

  8. That is awesome that you gave Howard some injections. I knew you could do it! :) Now, we have our fingers and paws crossed that ya'll can get his blood sugar regulated.

I hope you get approved for that third remote work day. I feel so fortunate that I only have to go in 2x/month now!

    1. I don't know why that comment posted as "Anonymous." It was me! :)

    2. I think the anonymous thing is some kind of Blogger glitch. Howard has an appointment next week to check his glucose again. We're hoping for progress this time.

  9. Congratulations on managing to give Howard his injections. And great to hear you've been crocheting again.

  10. Your hydrangeas are great! Poor Howard and poor Danielle, too. I don't know how I'd handle that with Lizzie and hope I never have to but I guess we never know. Sending love.

    1. The hydrangea bush is huge, which I love. I hope you never have to give Lizzie shots! Howard is so sweet, so it's easier than it would be with some cats
