When I looked through the pictures on my phone from the past week, almost all of them were cats or chickens. So, that’s my theme for this week’s Thursday 13. Don’t worry, the cats and chickens are safely apart.
1. Let’s
start off with a picture of Howard and Frankie cuddled together. These two are such great friends.
2. Two different
neighbors have chickens. There are the free-range chickens I’ve mentioned before (who live across the street) and the next-door
neighbors also have chickens. That’s why
there are chickens on both sides of the fence in this picture.
3. The
chickens next door have a pen that’s right up against our yard, so it’s impossible
to go in or out of our house without walking past them. I have permission to feed them as well, and
they definitely associate me with food.
They all run up to the corner of their pen closest to our house whenever
I walk by.
4. I’m
pretty sure that chickens never forget a food source. The free-range chickens know my voice and
come running when I call them. Here’s
one coming through to our yard for her snack.
5. I’m
fairly convinced that the answer to “Why did the chicken cross the road” is to
get a treat/snack.
6. Mortimer
is not at all concerned with why chickens cross the road.
7. Neither
is Charlie.
8. I had
no idea how entertaining chickens could be until our neighbors got them. They all seem to have such different personalities
and they do a lot of cute things.
9. Some of them like to perch on top of things.
10. Some
of them like to sit under things.
11. The
free-range chickens like to hang out under the azalea bushes after they’ve had
their snack.
12. They
seem to always hope for more snacks.
This one followed me back to the door after I gave them their treats,
just in case I was going to get more.
13. I think
they have an adorable little walk.
How has your week been?
Our backyard neighbors have chickens, too. It's fun to watch them without the work and we occasionally get free eggs from them, too.
ReplyDeleteBTW, Danielle I enjoyed learning more about from your Frugal Girl post. You have overcome a lot in your life and are definitely paying it forward with your care for pets in need. An inspiration.
When we’ve gone to county fairs, I always get a kick out of the chickens. Who knew there were so many varieties? They definitely have a lot of personality! As do your cute cats!
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents had chickens. I loved feeding them. They were free range too. They had a great life. It looks like those chickens do too. They have a great friend in you!
ReplyDeleteI love critters of all kinds! BTW, whichever cat is on the left in the first pic (Howard?) reminds me so much of my angel Derry, my "baby," my heart, who passed in January of this year. Give them both a cuddle from from me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my Musings blog, however you found it!
Ah, I see your grey tabby is Frankie--he looks so much like my Derry-Bear. :-)
ReplyDeleteI also saw a post about Howard's asthma and diabetes...OMC, been there. Nicki had asthma and I trained him to accept Flovent via the Aerokat mask, and Derry was, for a time, diabetic (turned out to be the vet-prescribed soy-based hydrolized urinary food, he was fine when I got him off it). But Derry had the Freestyle Libre sensor applied for a few months; it was a godsend! (Nicki passed in November 2019 from other serious health issues not related to the asthma.)
awwww chickens, your captures of them are wonderful. i hope your neighbor rewards your "giving of treats" with fresh eggs every now and then. we have a cute little farm nearby and i always stop for eggs when the owner has them by the roadside. you pay with the honor system and i always hope others are honest!!
ReplyDeletethe eggs are so fresh and delicious, i love having them in the house. we are having rain here at the jersey shore and i am loving it. i always LOVE a good storm, or just a little rain!!
Your neighbor chickens look so sociable!
ReplyDeleteA family in our neighborhood has free range chickens and ducks, often hanging out in the front yard. It does look like a nice life.
A good collection of photographs of this interesting place. The kitchen are safe in this exact moment.
ReplyDeleteWe raised chickens when I was a child. I hated them. LOL. They chased me, the rooster would fly at me, and I was allergic to them. The eggs were tasty, though.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit today and I must tell you, I am truly charmed with my visit here!
ReplyDeleteThat makes me think of the chickens who lived in a back yard that abutted a school. We could hear them when we were outside. And then one of the students kicked a soccer ball over the fence. And the chickens got very, very quiet. No injuries, although we wondered. (They went and got the ball back.)
ReplyDeletechickens do have so much personality; one of our neighbors have chickens too and sometimes they roam out of their pens (escape?) into the common area :-)
ReplyDeleteYour cats are beautiful! I smiled at the chickens -- I was reminded of the chickens when I used to go to Southern Exposure -- they'd sometimes bring in the more pet-like ones to circulate!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog. Your cats are lovely. I wondered why Howard looked a bit bald so looked back through your last few posts. I am glad you have been able to get him reasonably stable. What a time you have had of it, but we love our fur families and do what it takes. I hope you have him with you for a lot longer.
ReplyDeleteCats and chickens, that is funny. I let the pictures on my phone guide me through my blog posts each week but I can honestly say the subject has never been chickens and cats!
ReplyDeleteLove that photo of Howard and Frankie. It's always best to have a buddy! :)
ReplyDeleteHow cute that the next door chickens see you as the snack lady.
