How Is June Almost Over?

I didn’t mean to go nearly a month without writing a blog post, but that’s just how it goes sometimes.

The rain finally stopped.  We’re still having thunderstorms a few afternoons a week, but nothing like what we had going on for the last half of May.  The flooding and landslides in the surrounding counties seem to have stopped, which is a relief for everyone.

Our garden is doing alright.  Because of the rain, we weren’t able to plant everything that we had planned on, and Duke dug up and trampled a few things.  But the tomatoes seem to be doing well.  They’re still small and green, but I think there are some fried green tomatoes in our future.

We planted a blackberry bush against the fence last year.  We had the idea that having more bushes in front of the fence might make it harder for Duke to escape, and we both love blackberries, so a blackberry bush seemed ideal.  It didn’t really do anything last year.  In fact, we were pretty sure that it hadn’t made it.  Our leading theory was that Duke had trampled it to death.  Are you seeing a theme here?  Anyway, it started coming back this spring, and now has lots of green berries on it.  I’m not sure if they’re just dormant the first year, or what happened, really, but I’m very excited that we’ll have our own blackberries soon.

Caroline is officially a year old now.  Time flies, doesn’t it?  Per our vet’s instructions, we’re in the process of switching her from kitten food to cat food.  Caroline doesn’t seem to mind the change in food, and definitely hasn’t slowed down any.  She still acts like a kitten.  The big cats are still convinced that Caroline’s food is special, so still eat it at every opportunity, even though more and more of it is exactly the same food they’re eating.  There’s no convincing them of that, though.   They know it’s special.

I think that’s about it for us.  So how has June been for you?

  1. Great to see a post from you.

I'm glad the rain finally stopped, and the things Duke didn't dig up or trample are growing nicely in your garden.

Our Westie, Lilie, is a few months older than Caroline (she turned a year old in March) but as determined not to grow up as your kitty. If she can play with it, she will, and quite frankly I wish I had even half her energy! She made the switch from puppy food to adult dog food just after her birthday, and didn't seem to notice.

  2. That will be fun to have blackberries! Our plants are doing okay here, but all the rain seems to have killed the marigolds.

  3. June has been fast, that's what! We've had all sorts of weird weather -- beastly hot then really cold, wet and dry. But now almost July. I'm not ready for summer to begin in earnest for I know that will fly, too.

  6. Duke is like having a toddler or preschooler around :) Yummy on the blackberries. They are a favorite berry of mine. Time goes by so fast, doesn't it? Just commenting to hubby earlier this evening that tomorrow is June 28th. Seemed like June just began, but time will go by incredibly fast here until the end of August since I have to get on a plane then and I don't like to fly so of course time will speed up until then :)

We are actually having at times cooler than normal temps here (by cooler just like 1-2 degrees cooler, LOL) but this year so far (knock on wood) has been cooler than the previous 2 Junes we have lived here, so we are grateful for the temps for the most part staying under 110 and no 123 temps like we had last June :)

  7. It seems like June appeared and now we are ready to say good bye to it in the blink of an eye. But since I have retired time flies like that, and without the calendar I have a hard time keeping up with what day it is. My Lily turned a yr in April and she still behaves like a kitten but doesn't seem to get into as much stuff now. I am not sure if it is her growing or she is just used to the stuff around her. Sounds like Duke loves to get into your plantings. I have been lucky Dakota is not like that course he is 11 now. Have a great end to your month and a happy beginning to July.

  8. June has been unusually dry, hot and sunny here in Belfast. Normally summer is the odd hot day here and there but this June has been almost continuously baking. Temperatures yesterday reached 30C in some places.

My mum died on June 3 but it wasn't too sad as she had reached the ripe old age of 96 and had had a long and satisfying life.

  9. Our kitten eats our dog's food! He prefers it to his own. We have to hide it.

  10. Seriously, we have no idea where June went. Time is flying, faster and faster, it seems.

So funny about the other kitties thinking/knowing that Caroline's food is better. Ha!
